Abstract

A Retrospective study on body weight was performed in 2680 diabetic patients, who visited to Eul Ji Hospital from January 1989 to December 1989.
The following resutts were obtained;
1) The number of patients in overweight group by actual body weight were 1280 (44.8%) and the number of patients in overweight group by maximal body weight were 1383 (73.8%).
2) There was significant difference on Total cholesterol, duration, and systolic blood pressure between overweight group and other groups.
3) There was no significant difference on Triglyceride HbAlc, and diastolic blood pressure between overweight group and other groups.
4) After 3 months, reduction of body weight resulted in an fair blood glucose control.
In conclusion, the incidence of diabetes mellitus, hypertention, hypercholesterolemia seems to be high in overweight patients. We postulated that successful weight reduction was associated with significant and substanial improvement in blood sugar control.
